In Memoriam Of Sean Connery, The First James Bond

On October 31, the world lost a gem. I am talking about Sir Thomas Sean Connery. On that day I received the newspapers, on the front page there was a photo of a man and it was captioned Sean Connery: A Star Lost. So, naturally I feel sad for whoever died even if I don't know them, but when my father saw the headlines he was surprised and let out a gasp. I was kinda taken aback because my father doesn't see many Hollywood movies. So I asked him why he was surprised. He told me that Mr. Connery was a very famous actor and well known for his role as British Secret Agent James Bond in seven James Bond movies. Being the dutiful blogger I jumped on it and saw some of his performances and they were absolutely delightful. So let's take a look back at his legendary life and pay tribute to him.

Sir Thomas Sean Connery was born on 25th August 1930 in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh. He was born in a financially unstable family. Before making his career in acting, he did several jobs such as milkman, lorry driver, a labourer, artist's model for The Edinburgh College of Art, coffin polisher and bodybuilder. He also served in the royal navy but was discharged due to medical problems. He had a choice between becoming a Footballer or an Actor and obviously chose acting and it is said one of his best choices.

No Road Back (1957) was his first major film role followed by many made-for-TV movies. His big breakthrough came in 1962 when he landed the role of the famous James Bond in Dr.No. He continued to play James Bond in six James Bond films: From Russia with love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You only live twice (1967), Diamonds are Forever (1971) and Never Say Never Again (1983). He did many other successful roles after too.

He retired from the business since he wasn't offered any lead roles and he did not want to do the typical old man roles. He married actress Diane Cilento in 1962 and had a son . Eventually they split up and Sean married Micheline Roquebrune in 1975. Sean Connery died on 31st October 2020 in Nassau, The Bahamas when he was 90. A legend who will not be forgotten.
